2nd Annual Grand Coronation

The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama (BGCSA) invites the community to attend its 2nd Annual Grand Coronation on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 3 p.m. at The Locale, located at 4128 Government Blvd in Mobile.

Presented by the Bernard Malkove Branch, the Grand Coronation is a special celebration recognizing the leadership, achievements, and bright futures of BGCSA members.

Building on last year’s inaugural event, this year’s coronation promises an elegant and inspiring afternoon bringing together families, community leaders, and supporters from across South Alabama.

“The Grand Coronation is more than just an event—it’s a tribute to the hard work, talent, and potential of our Club members,” said Jemina (GiGi) Williams, Branch Director.

Guests are encouraged to attend in formal or semi-formal attire.

Join Us for the 16th Annual Pancake Breakfast on April 4, 2026

The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama invites the community to its 16th Annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Harmon-Thomas Community Center.

Guests can enjoy a delicious breakfast featuring pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit, and more—all while supporting local youth programs that make a lasting impact in our community.

Tickets are $20 and available through Givelively.

All proceeds support the Club’s mission of providing safe spaces, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities for children and teens across South Alabama.

• Free health screenings
• Voter registration opportunities
• Live performances by Jukebox Brass Band and Excelsior Band

15th Annual Pancake Breakfast: A Morning of Community, Connection, and Giving Back

On Saturday, April 5th, the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama hosted its 15th Annual Pancake Breakfast—a cherished tradition that continues to bring together families, friends, and community partners in support of our mission to build great futures for young people across Mobile.

This year’s event, held at the Harmon-Thomas Community Center, was more than just a delicious breakfast. It was a celebration of community spirit and a testament to what can be accomplished when people come together for a common cause. Guests enjoyed fresh, hot pancakes prepared by skilled volunteers, while taking part in a wide range of free activities including live entertainment, bounce houses, voter registration, and even complimentary haircuts. The festive, family-friendly atmosphere made the morning both memorable and meaningful.

We are incredibly grateful to William Burks, Director of the Kiwanis Branch, who led the planning and execution of this year’s event. His dedication and leadership ensured that every detail was thoughtfully managed, creating a welcoming and joyful experience for all who attended.

The success of the Pancake Breakfast would not have been possible without the generosity of our corporate sponsors and community supporters. Empowering the Next Generation: Highlights from the 4th Annual Advocates for Girls Empowerment Conference

On March 17th, the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama proudly hosted the 4th Annual Advocates for Girls Empowerment Conference—an inspiring and impactful event that brought together 70 girls for a full day of career exploration, personal development, and powerful conversations around confidence, resilience, and self-worth.

This annual conference has become a cornerstone of our commitment to nurturing the leadership potential of young women in our community. Led by Tiffany Pogue, Director of Workforce Development and Teen Services, the 2025 conference was a true reflection of her passion for youth empowerment and her dedication to providing meaningful experiences for the next generation of female leaders. Under her guidance, the event offered a series of hands-on workshops, interactive discussions, and opportunities for one-on-one mentorship.

From self-care and mental wellness sessions to career panels featuring local women leaders across industries, the day was thoughtfully designed to help young girls imagine bold futures for themselves. Participants engaged in open dialogue around the challenges they face, the strengths they possess, and the dreams they hold close. Each activity aimed to equip them with tools not only to navigate adolescence but to thrive as confident, capable women.

We are deeply grateful for the support of our generous partners who made this day possible. (Mobile, AL) Jesse LeBeau, to deliver keynote address at Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama (BGCSA) Youth of the Year (YOY) Dinner celebrating outstanding teens on Thursday, May 22, at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel, 64 S. Water St, Mobile, AL 36602. LeBeau is a speaker, best-selling author, and one of the world’s most sought-after youth motivational thought leaders.

LeBeau’s unlikely underdog story has inspired millions of teens through his speaking, best-selling books, and inspirational youth programs. He is one of the world’s premiere basketball trick artists and is regularly featured on TV, film, and international tours. In 2017, he started The Attitude is Everything Foundation as a resource for young people to have ongoing support throughout their difficult teenage years particularly targeting the area of self-esteem, confidence, and mental health. To date, LeBeau has helped millions of teenagers overcome the adversity in their lives to grow into strong, healthy, and happy adults, and he is now on a mission to bring these life skills into every school and home across the world. The program will begin at 6:00 pm. with a reception at 5:30 pm.

The YOY event is the signature event aligning with the mission to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. This program recognizes and celebrates children and youth and provides a platform to showcase their skills, share their stories, and inspire others.

Honorees are selected from the traditional Clubs based on submitting a completed application, recommendations, and interviews with community leaders. Their outstanding leadership skills, exemplary service to others, academic excellence, and commitment to a healthy lifestyle played a role in the selection process.

Youth of the Year is the organization’s main fundraising event, an opportunity for the public and business community to learn firsthand about the impact Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama has on shaping the lives of area youth.

Tee Off for a cause at the 33rd Annual Mayor’s Cup Golf Tournament

Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama will host its 33rd Annual Mayors’ Cup Golf Tournament presented by Lexus of Mobile on Friday, October 4, at Magnolia Grove, 7001 Magnolia Grove Pkwy, Mobile, AL 36618.

This annual event is one of the oldest and most popular charity Golf Tournaments in the area and promises a day filled with fun, camaraderie, and friendly competition. After a day of golf, participants enjoy a steak dinner followed by the Mayors Cup awards presentation. Proceeds from the tournament allow BGCSA to continue providing high-impact activities and programs for over 2,000 youth annually at six year-round Clubs, four summer-only programs, and Camp Chandler-Tonsmeire.

Tickets are $1200 per team (a team of 4 players includes green/cart fees, lunch & dinner, and beverages). Participants also have two chances to get a hole-in-one and win a Lexus.

As part of our the 33rd Annual Lexus Mayors’ Cup Golf Tournament, BGCSA is holding a silent auction for an opportunity to win a trip for two to Pebble Beach. The 2024 Lexus Champions for Charity National Championship will be December 11-15, 2024. The minimum bid is $8,000 and proceeds benefit the programs of Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama. Future Me Conference at Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama

The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama (BGCSA) hosted their inaugural Future Me Conference: Empowering Boys to Lead Their Future on July 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The conference was held at the Harmon-Thomas Community Center, 1611 Belfast St, Mobile, AL 36607, and aimed to assist young men in shaping their future by envisioning their aspirations, connecting with men in the community, and fostering growth and mentorship.

The conference featured a dynamic program. Participants delved into a series of breakout sessions and panel discussions exploring wellness, healthy relationships, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

Ronnie Stallworth, Sr., mentor and author of “Cracks in the Wall,” delivered the keynote address, sharing his struggles from living in extreme poverty and experiencing loss, and how the power of mentorship changed the trajectory of his life. Conference participants included Zachary Todd from BGCSA; Todd Greer from Innovation Portal; Ellis Foster from Eluxe Capital Ventures; Tony Davis from Secret Scientist; Josh Jones from USA Health Violence Prevention; Sidney King from Commonwealth Bank; T’Chad McAlman from University of South Alabama Basketball; Chad Lott from ICU Mental Health; and Eric Battle from Mobile Parks & Recreation.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama names Jabaria Dent Chief Executive Officer

Mobile, AL – The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama board of directors is pleased to announce and welcome Jabaria Dent as Chief Executive Officer.

Dent will serve as the primary leader of an organization that includes six traditional clubs and six summer sites across Mobile and Baldwin Counties providing after-school care and education for more than 2,000 children.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jabaria to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama and excited to add her breadth of experience in education, culture building, and creating safe and productive environments for children, all of which are at the core of our organization,” said Board Chairwoman Angela Dunn.

Dent brings 20 years of experience in human resources, executive leadership, and youth development primarily in the nonprofit sector. She holds a master’s degree of Divinity, and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English.

In her previous role as academic dean for Remington College, Dent oversaw all academic programming for the Mobile campus and helped develop dual enrollment programming around career and technical education for charter networks and local public schools. Prior to Remington, she served as the founding Director of Career and Technical Education for MAEF Public Charter Schools, helping to create policy and practices around workforce education in the public charter school space.

Dent is no stranger to the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama. She and her husband, Dr. Charles Dent, consulted with BGCSA to create curriculum and strategy for parental engagement as part of their 21^st Century programming that ran from 2017-2021 across seven sites throughout Mobile County.

“I am excited to lead this work for our children and our community. I believe that we are poised to transform the narrative of our city’s youth and I look forward to working with all our community stakeholders to co-create a new vision for Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama.”
