The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama proudly hosted its 2026 Youth of the Year Luncheon on May 19, bringing together community leaders, supporters, families, and Club members to celebrate the achievements and leadership of four outstanding young people.
This year’s finalists included Austin English of the Bernard Malkove Club, Matthew Green of the Sonny Callahan Club, Harmoni Jones of the Semmes Club, and Jairon Rogers of the Kiwanis Club. Each finalist shared inspiring stories of personal growth, leadership, perseverance, and the impact the Boys & Girls Clubs have had on their lives.
The event also featured special guest speaker Darryl C. Gaines, Deputy Director of the Exploration Architecture Integration and Science Directorate at NASA Johnson Space Center. A Mobile native, Kiwanis Alumni, former NFL athlete, and accomplished aerospace executive, Gaines encouraged attendees and finalists to continue pursuing their goals while embracing leadership, resilience, and service to others.
At the conclusion of the luncheon, Austin English of the Bernard Malkove Club was named the 2026 Youth of the Year winner for the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama. Austin was recognized for his leadership, dedication, academic success, and commitment to using his voice to encourage and uplift others in his community.
Youth of the Year is the Boys & Girls Club’s premier recognition program that celebrates young leaders who exemplify academic success, character, leadership, and service. The program highlights the life changing impact Boys & Girls Clubs have on young people across South Alabama.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama extends its gratitude to all sponsors, supporters, staff members, volunteers, and attendees who helped make this year’s luncheon a success. The organization remains committed to creating opportunities for young people to grow, lead, and achieve great futures.
