We are excited to welcome Darryl C. Gaines, a proud Mobile native and Kiwanis Alumni, whose story is nothing short of inspiring. Today, he serves in a leadership role at NASA as Deputy Director of the Exploration Architecture Integration and Science Directorate at Johnson Space Center, supporting the Artemis Program and helping lead efforts to return humans to the moon while working alongside top companies and teams across the country.
With over 34 years of experience in space programs, and a journey that also includes playing in the NFL, Mr. Gaines brings a perspective that connects hard work, resilience, and opportunity. His career began as a software engineer while playing for the Kansas City Chiefs, and he has since gone on to lead major programs, manage large-scale budgets, and collaborate with international partners and companies like SpaceX, Blue Origin, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin.He has also played a role in advancing innovation in space, contributed to work aboard the International Space Station, and now serves on NASA’s Astronaut Selection Board, helping shape the next generation of astronauts. Beyond his work at NASA, he is the Founder and President of the Darryl Gaines Foundation and remains deeply committed to giving back through education, STEM, and community impact.He is passionate about helping young people see what is possible for their future. His story is one that will resonate with students, families, and the entire community. You will not want to miss hearing from him.
