ArcelorMittal Calvert Partners with Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama to Support New Mt. Vernon Club

ArcelorMittal Calvert and Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama (BGCSA) today announced a partnership to support year-round youth programming at BGCSA’s new club location in Mt. Vernon. A $100,000 investment from ArcelorMittal Calvert will help expand access to year-round youth services for children and families at the new site located at 19180 Shepard Lake Rd E, Mt. Vernon, AL 36560.

“At ArcelorMittal Calvert, we know the future of our workforce starts right here in our communities. Supporting the Boys & Girls Club in Mt. Vernon is an investment in the next generation—helping young people access the resources, mentorship, and encouragement they need to succeed. We’re proud to contribute to a project that aligns so closely with our commitment to education, opportunity, and long-term community growth,” said Chris Richards, Chief Executive Officer, ArcelorMittal Calvert.

The partnership underscores a shared commitment by ArcelorMittal Calvert and BGCSA to strengthen local support for children and teens in Mt. Vernon. The funding will help sustain programming at the new club and advance BGCSA’s mission to provide a safe, supportive environment for youth development, learning, and engagement.

“At ArcelorMittal Calvert, we see community investment and workforce development as closely connected. Partnerships like this one with the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama help create early exposure that can shape future career pathways. By supporting year-round programming in Mt. Vernon, we’re helping build a stronger foundation for the next generation—strengthening not only this community, but the future workforce our region depends on,” said Kristen Mosley, Area Manager of Communications and Corporate Responsibility, ArcelorMittal Calvert.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new club is scheduled for Thursday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m., followed immediately by a tour of the club facilities. Expected attendees include Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood; the Mt. Vernon Mayor; Mt. Vernon City Council members; the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama Board Chairperson; and BGCSA Chief Executive Officer Jermaine West.

With ArcelorMittal Calvert’s contribution, BGCSA will be able to deliver consistent, year-round programming at the Mt. Vernon club—expanding academic support, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities for local youth. The investment also helps ensure the new location has the resources needed to serve families reliably throughout the year and remain an active partner in the Mt. Vernon community.

“We are pleased to partner with ArcelorMittal Calvert and the Mobile County Commission to establish a year-round Boys & Girls Club in Mt. Vernon—supporting the community and expanding youth services for local families,” West said.
